Plant-Based BBQ Burger

Ingredients

  • 2 Laura's Plant-Based Burgers
  • 1 Egg (beaten)
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1/4 Large onion (sliced crosswise, 1/2 inch thick rings)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 slices Sharp cheddar
  • 2 Lettuce leaves
  • 6 slices Pickle
  • 2 tbsps BBQ sauce
  • 2 Hamburger buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

1. Place the beaten egg in a medium bowl and fill another bowl with the flour.  Season both the egg and flour well with salt and pepper and stir to combine.  Dip the sliced onions into the flour, then into the egg, then into the flour again. Place the breaded onions on a plate.
 
2. Place a medium saucepan over medium heat.  Fill halfway with vegetable oil and bring to 350°F. Without overcrowding, fry the onions until lightly brown and crispy, for about 5 minutes.  Transfer to a paper towel lined plate and season with salt.
 
3. Place a large skillet over medium heat.  Add the 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil followed by the burgers.  Cook the burgers until heated, about 3 minutes per side. Top each burger with a slice of cheddar and cook until the cheese has melted.
 
4. Transfer each burger to a bun.  Top each with a lettuce leaf, 3 pickles, the fried onion rings, and 1 tablespoon of bbq sauce.
