Hearty Tomato Sauce

Ingredients
2 14.5-ounce cans diced tomatoes
2 medium onions, chopped
5 cloves garlic, minced
1/8 cup honey
½ cup red cooking wine
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon basil
1 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon parsley
2 pounds Laura's 92% Lean Ground Beef or 96% Lean Ground Round
5 15-ounce cans crushed tomatoes
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
2 cups water

Directions
1. Combine diced tomatoes, onions, garlic, honey, wine and spices in large five quart cooking pot.
2. Simmer on medium high for 39 minutes, stirring frequently and adding a little water if necessary.
3. In a separate skillet, brown the beef. Add beef to mixture, along with remaining ingredients.
4. Simmer on low for 1 hour, covered. Salt and pepper to taste.

Serving suggestions: Serve over pasta or polenta.

Makes 8 servings.

Cooking Tip: Freeze sauce by allowing it to cool, then portion into small plastic freezer bags. Be sure to squeeze the air out before sealing. Freeze them flat on a cookie sheet until solid, and then stack them in your freezer for up to six months.
