Five Spice Beef
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
1 tablespoon five spice powder
4 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce, divided
1 pound Laura’s Lean Sirloin Steak, cut into 1-inch strips
1/2 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup diced celery
1/2 small green pepper, seeded and chopped
1/2 small red pepper, seeded and chopped
1 (8-ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1/3 cup low-salt, fat-free beef broth
2 tablespoons cashews, toasted
Hot cooked brown rice
Directions
1. Place steak in a glass container or ziplock bag. Combine five spice powder and 3 tablespoons soy sauce in a small bowl; pour over steak. Allow steak to stand while chopping the rest of the ingredients.
2. Heat a large wok or skillet oven medium-high heat; add beef and marinade, browning on all sides; remove beef from pan.
3. Stir in onion and next 5 ingredients in the same skillet and cook 5 to 10 minutes or until tender. Add beef back to skillet and add remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce and cook until heated through. Top with cashews and serve over brown rice, if desired.
Makes 4 servings.
Cooking Tips: It is important to keep the beef marinade in the skillet to sauté your vegetables. This helps the flavors of the dish to blend together.
