Low-Fat Cooking Tips
Not all beef is as lean as Laura’s. In fact, our beef is lower in fat and saturated fat than conventional beef. Using Laura’s in your beef recipes is one easy way to reduce fat in your diet. Here are some other ways:
• To further reduce the fat in ground beef patties and meatloaf, pat the cooked burgers and meatloaf with a dry paper towel. This can lower fat by as much as 50%.
• Use cooking methods such as broiling, pan-broiling, grilling, roasting, stir-frying, stewing and braising.
• Place the cooked ground beef in a strainer and drain well.
•Baste and sear beef with stock or broth instead of oil.
•Skim fat from homemade soups and stews. Chill them and remove the fat layer that rises to the surface.
• Use marinades and rubs to add flavor, tenderize or to enhance the flavor of beef.
• When a recipe calls for oil, use a smaller amount of a more flavorful oil, such as olive, sesame or chili oil. Use a combination of flavored oils, herbs or beef stock to season beef, vegetables and sauces. Or, coat cooking pan with a thin layer of oil and then wipe with a paper towel.
• Infuse flavor by scoring the steak by making shallow cuts in a diamond pattern on the surface of the meat. This allows meat to absorb more of the flavors from a marinade.
